In the week of the Jewish Holiday Shavu’ot, and as the grand finale to the Omer Count program, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and Rachel Libeskind present an event inspired by the medieval tradition of “the Tikkun”. Hebrew for “amending” or “correcting”, it describes in the context of this holiday the tradition of studying the Torah for a whole night. In this night-long-happening, taking place from 9pm to 5am, they will discuss this holy day, study, play music, make images and host guests. Thoughts, bodies, traditions, images and sounds, artists and guests, will create a tapestry of emerging performative contemplations.

The Omer Count: Tikkun Leil Shavuot

In passover we celebrate departure: Recalling the Exodus, the origin story of the Jewish people, it marks an outward movement: the leaving of the indoors after winter, the warm weather, the blossoming of the trees and the regeneration of the earth, the cleaning of the houses and the getting rid of the old to welcome the new. Ariel Efraim Ashbel and Rachel Libeskind invite the public to walk together from the Jewish Museum to the HAU, reflecting on important landmarks of the dialectic Jewish legacy of the neighborhood.

Dialectics of Departure 2

“Treffpunkt: Jüdenstraße” is the second iteration of Dialectics of Departure, by Ariel Efraim Ashbel and Rachel Libeskind. This performative walk takes the audience through Mitte, encountering multilayered stories, offering new perspectives on Jewish histories and futurisms, and concluding in a Shabbat kiddush at Sophiensaele.
